Thanks Kelley! I hope so as well. In the meantime, don’t forget to pay thy taxes. The King is e’er watching. ⚔️

I completely understand where you are coming from, but I will still miss your rare and entertaining “voice.” True originality is hard to find these days. Thank you for sharing yours. Good luck to you and your family. ❤️👏🏻

Thank ye for the kind words, Lord McIntyre.

I'm very sad to read this, but I totally understand your reasoning. Hopefully, after a break, you will find the door to the next chapter of your life. Please keep writing; I have so enjoyed reading everything you've published and love your sense of humour.

Many thanks for the kind words. In tyme, I do think I shall take up the quill again. Just need a little tyme to reflect and reimagine what the next chapter looks like (and to take care of these pesky progeny)

Worth every penny for us! But certainly not worth the pennies for you, as "fun" as it is to live the reality of being a peasant. It was amazing while it lasted!

I hope you can maybe find a way to make some passive income from this, in the form of silly merch perhaps? Stickers? Bookmarks? Mugs? Books?! All could provide a trickle of riches to fund future crusades. Museum giftshops are certainly suffering from the absence of the King's wisdom. You deserve riches!

With much admiration and affection - Pip

Personally, I’m planning on the death of a fabulously wealthy long lost relative to bequeath me their estate, but I suppose merch could work, too.

Sorry to see you go, Jan, but very understandable to take a break. I've certainly gotten a kick out of your stuff and hope to see it again when ready!

Thou wilt be missed by us. And may you also be missed by crossbows.

Unfortunately, said crossbows always seem to hit their mark. Especially when aimed at my nether regions. 😣

Sad times indeed as I have only recently sworn my loyalty. But methinks I shall return to the beginning and read all, then it shall be as if thy never left. Perchance I shall also annoy with comments on thy old posts until I am exiled or beheaded whatever is thy choice.

I very much look forward to exiling and/or beheading thee in the days to come ⚔️

Blessings upon thee, O wise chronicler. May thy life and thy house prosper in the forthcoming years.

Gramercy, sire. I shall personally bestow thy blessings upon my progeny.

Be well! I hope to see more of your hilarity soon.

Thank ye, Suzanne! If the winds are favourable, I hope to return to action ere the raiding season. ⚔️

You have brought us all great joy. Or at least me. And while I fully understand real world requirements, I'm hoping a lost great uncle's fortune is found, and you can indeed take to the sundappled fields next to your palace, and resume the telling of important tales. They are good. Very good. And I miss them all ready.

Gramercy for thy kind words! If thou dost happen to cross paths with my rich great uncle in the village square, mayhaps thou cannest “accidentally” run him over with thy horse? ⚔️

Oh Jan! I had no idea. I, myself, caught a bit o' plague when you published this, fell way behind with all my fellows, and just realized this morning I had not been receiving your fantastically funny newsletter.

I so appreciate your hard work & humo(u)r, and will miss Ye Olde Tyme News tremendously. 😞

Perhaps a medieval reality TV series is in your future? My oracle foresees 20 contestants, consisting of beknighted and beserfed, without clothing, accoutrement (or torture device), being dropped off in the middle of a deserted island, having to forego title & tithe to learn to work together . . .

. . . tune in to "Survyvor: Naked & Dismayed" on every Lord's Day (after vespers, you heathens)

Expand full comment

Thank ye for the kind words, sire, and for ye olde survyvor idea. Let us hope that it comes to fruition and all of the serfs perish on said island.

Although, viewership might be quite low, for after Vespers e’eryone shouldst be praying or paying taxes.🏝️

I'll miss your posts and hope that someday you'll be able to reboot YOTN. It sounds like you have a lot going on right now, so it's understandable that you need to put it aside for now.

Good luck, and hope to see you again!

Many thanks, Jennifer. May The King’s Grace be with thee, e’en in my absence. ⚔️

I'm sorry to see this! But completely understand. The work you do here is witty and funny but surely takes a lot of energy and brainpower. I appreciate all you've done -- both your writing and the many, many readers you've brought to my little Substack through your recommendation.

Thanks James! And thanks for all your great breakdowns of The Onion over the years. Those have been a great way to see which types of stories stand the test of time.

Know that you have brought me so much joy with your wit! I understand that economics is a real thing. Families too. Good luck with what you do, and keep a list of your subscribers handy should you start up again. And hopefully this is au revoir, and not adieu.

Yea, economicks and mine offspring have been awfully brash encroaching on my writing as of late. I too hope to one day return, it shall just take a little tyme. Many thanks for the kind words and for joining me on the journey thus far!
